“The Indira Gandhi Smartphone Scheme in Rajasthan to Provide Smartphones & Internet Connectivity to Women Kicks Off on the 10th of August.“
Jaipur will soon witness a tech revolution as the government prepares to launch the Indira Gandhi Smartphone Scheme on the 10th of August. Under this scheme, free mobile phones with internet connectivity will be provided to women nationwide. In the first phase, 191,548 beneficiaries in the Jaipur district will be given smartphones.
District Collector Prakash Rajpurohit has shed light on the scheme’s beneficiaries, stating that selected Chiranjeevi families’ single women, widows, female students studying in grades 9-12 in government schools, female students enrolled in government ITIs, Polytechnic and Sanskrit colleges, female heads of families who have completed 100 workdays under NREGA, and female-heads of families who have completed 50 workdays under the Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Scheme will be included.
Distribution Across Six Locations and 22 Block Headquarters
Rajpurohit further elaborated that the smartphone distribution would occur at six locations in Jaipur city and 22 block headquarters. Selected beneficiaries will receive an SMS from the administration informing them of the camp date and venue. They will also be sent a slip detailing the necessary documents to carry to the camp.
Beneficiaries must bring their Jan Aadhaar Card, Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, and the mobile number registered on their Jan Aadhaar Card. Studying students must get their ID card and enrollment card, and widows should bring their PPO along.
The Process to Receive the Smartphone
The Director of the Department of Information Technology and Communication, Ritesh Kumar Sharma, explained the procedure for receiving the smartphone. Beneficiaries’ e-KYC will be done on the IGSW portal in the camp. After verification of the Jan Aadhaar number and details, the Jan Aadhaar e-Wallet will be installed on the mobile phone brought by the beneficiary.
Next, the beneficiary’s PAN card details will be entered on the IGSW portal, and three types of forms will be printed and handed over. After this, the beneficiary will go to the mobile service provider’s counter to choose a SIM and data plan and then to the mobile company’s counter to select a mobile phone as per their preference.
After filling out the forms, the beneficiary will proceed to the final counter, where a staff member will scan and upload all the information and documents to the IGSW portal.
As soon as this process is completed, the state government will transfer a total of Rs. 6800 to the pre-installed e-Wallet on the beneficiary’s phone. The beneficiary can use this money to obtain the previously selected mobile phone and SIM.
- The state government will transfer INR 6,125 into the beneficiary’s e-wallet for a mobile phone and INR 675 for a SIM card with an internet data plan.
- The government will also transfer an annual amount of INR 900 for internet access in April 2024 and April 2025.
- The beneficiary must bring the mobile phone to the camp with the number registered in their Aadhar card.
- If the beneficiary has changed their mobile number, they must update their new number in their Aadhar card at the e-Mitra centre before coming to the camp.
The state government plans to digitally empower its citizens by providing mobile phones and internet data.
