The Supreme Court decided to look into a situation on 21st March 2024 where Gaurav Bhatia, a well-known lawyer and spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party, along with lawyer Muskan Gupta, were reportedly attacked at a court in Greater Noida. The supreme court took a suo motu case over the attacks on the lawyer.
This decision came after the Attorney General and a group of lawyers told the Supreme Court about the incident. The Supreme Court has asked for a report from the judge of the district and sent a notice to the local lawyers’ group in Gautam Budh Nagar.
The trouble started when Bhatia went to the Greater Noida court in Surajpur for a case. While he was there, some people from the local lawyers’ group told him about a lawyers’ strike. Bhatia agreed to postpone his case, and it was rescheduled. However, despite this, a lawyer acted rudely in front of the district and sessions judge and took Bhatia’s lawyer’s band from him.
Bhatia expressed his feelings about the incident on the social media platform X, saying lawyers are dedicated to their clients’ families but will not stand for disrespect towards their professional symbols.
