How did he Die and Cause of Death?
Bob Marley, the iconic Jamaican reggae legend, passed away at just 36 years old, succumbing to a form of skin cancer called Acral Lentiginous Melanoma (ALM) in 1981. Despite melanoma typically affecting those with fair skin, Marley’s case was a rare exception.
Initially mistaking a dark spot under his toenail as a soccer injury, Marley later received a diagnosis of ALM, a rare and aggressive skin cancer affecting the body’s extremities and characterized by its freckled appearance. This unexpected illness tragically cut short the life of the world-renowned musician and songwriter. This diagnosis marked the beginning of the end for Marley, despite his global fame and musical success.

In his last days while receiving treatment for his cancer Bob Marley craved for returning to Jamaica and meet his fate in his homeland and die in peace and decided to go back to the place and was not able to reach. Hereโs the story:
Bob Marley’s final journey was marked by a poignant awareness of his impending fate, contrary to his optimistic anthem that “every little thing is gonna be alright.” In 1981, while seeking alternative treatments in Europe for his melanoma, Marley decided to return to Jamaica, his homeland and the cradle of reggae music, to spend his final days. However, on his way to Jamaica, his condition deteriorated significantly, necessitating an emergency landing in Miami.
Marley was rushed to Cedars of Lebanon Hospital, now known as the University of Miami Hospital, where he passed away on May 11, 1981.

Despite his wish to return to Jamaica, Marley’s body was brought back only after his death, where he was honored with a state funeral. A statue in Kingston stands as a tribute to his life and contributions to music. His final resting place is in a chapel near his birthplace in Jamaica, ensuring his legacy remains forever linked to the island that inspired his global influence.
One of his statues was also installed by the state of Jamaica to pay him tribute and he is and will always be the legend in his field of reggae music.
